benches for visiting

I grew up in a small town on Long Island when it was rural and we had an old white general store with wood floors that creaked and a screen door that slammed and 2 gas pumps outside. We would go to pick up the newspapers every morning and pick up milk when we ran out, and treat ourselves to popsicles on hot summer days... there was a bulletin board with things for sale, babysitting and lawn mowing jobs posted and there was always a bench outside for neighbors to sit and visit, wait out the rain, sit in the shade...This ritual and icon in our community has been the inspiration for our new general store ...hope you'll visit us on-line on your own bench and enjoy our website, where we have pictures of friends visiting our sales and finding great things for their homes today!

barbara eigen bowls + colanders

barbara eigen's colanders are perfect for summer fruits and the low shallow bowls aren't just for pasta and salads...I love to float a few peony blossoms in them for a simple summer centerpiece

rosemary olive oil

my favorite olive oil this time of year (or any time of year!) to drizzle on heirloom tomatoes, mozzarella or montrachet, for white pizzas or light pasta, a touch is all you need to conjure up fresh herbs from the garden...
